Okay, now we are getting serious. So have you ever wondered if those nice clips on Youtube could be downloaded so that you would view them locally on your computer, edit their format and so on? I have, and i was convinced that it was possible. I thus came across two ways of doing this. And yeah, i will show you how to do it. Just one thing before we start though, during the steps, open the links in a new tab or a new window so that you will still be able to follow the instructions. Okay, enough talk now, Lets go!!!

• For non-firefox users, the harder way

Now dont get me wrong, firefox users also can use this method, but it does not really make sense to do so. just read on, you will get my point pretty soon. here are the steps to follow.

1. so, go to the page of the clip you want to download on Youtube. on the right of the page you will see an encrypted url. just select that and copy it onto the clipboard (edit->copy or right click->copy



2. okay once you have got this url head to Qooqle, the YouTube Downloader (lol hecky name huh?, even more strange since Google recently aquired Utube:). paste the url you copied in the textbox and generate the download url. Now copy the generated url.



3. you will now need a download manager to automatically download the clip. If you don’t already have one, i suggest you to download Flashget. So open your download manager, add a new download, and paste the generated url as the download url. you will afterwards need to add the extension “.flv” to the downloaded file.
4. Download the file and read below after the procedure for firefox users.
• For Firefox users, the easier way
  1. Download Video downloader, an excellent Extension for firefox
  2. go to any page with embedded content. note that unlike the above method, this can be a weblog or any webpage with embedded video, mp3 etc.
  3. Just click on the icon on the lower right corner of your status bar
  4. You were anticipating more steps? there’s none, you’re done!:)  Just download the file and add “.flv” to its filename

Okay, i have the file “get_video.flv”. so what do i do next?

now you can play the file using a flv player (for example VLC or Wimpy Free FLV Player ) Even when you are offline! nice huh? but wait, even nicer,you can convert that clip to DivX or to most other video formats. you can even get an animated gif from the video! (useful to make avatars) so how to do all that with your flv file? It is as simple as going HERE and downloading SUPER, the powerful “Simplified Universal Player, Encoder and Renderer”. Install and Tadaa! you now have complete control over the flv files, as well as any other video format!!
