Opera Vs Firefox?
Just now saw a (very) heated debate on a forum. The topic? well, it was
Firefox, merely a weak opponent to Opera
Hey, i am (and will probably remain for a long time) a firefox user. it was therefore natural for me to join the debate and defend the cause of our nice browser. Now, If you are active on blogs and forums, you probably have already been flamed or at least witnessed someone being flamed. Well, Opera has got many fans (some of which are nearly extremist by the way…) and i was flamed to death, i was left without any arguments at their mercy… (Yes friends, kyushiro lost his word power to some extremist opera users…
) Just to say, i am not against opera or anything, just sick of opera users who think they are superior and try to discredit other browsers with mere speculations and irrelevant comments, such as
firefox users are those people who orgasm just at the mere mention of the words *open source*.
So for the open source part, pfff…. :s I didnt think such narrow minded people still existed…. Even if FF wasnt open source, if it were as good as it is now, we would still be using it! (or at least I would…). And i would like to remind that The open source thing is
also an advantage. Most FF extensions are developped by users who know exactly what they need, and we thus come up with an extensive list of extensions for the users and by the users…

Now let me say this once for all, for me Firefox is much better than opera, and for many reasons. Firstly, opera? have tried it many times. well, for starters its as fast as my grandma on a skateboard, while firefox 2 is more like a feather in the wind, just to give you an idea.
Furthermore, Operas new widgets do not have even half the scope of FF extensions. i mean, come on guys, FF has thousands of extension lying on the net, that range from a built in ftp client to a web developper bar with css and image manipulation facilities (and more…) without forgetting an ever useful full featured blog post editor (that i am using right now by the way
)
Yes, i admit it, firefox is not as secure as mozilla tries to make it sound, but hey, you cant have everything! if you want features
and browsing facilities not offered in other browsers, i think you must take the risk.
As for the ones who think Firefox is just for beginners, hey, I doubt a beginner would ever need ftp access or a css and html validator, or a form builder, just to name a few. So what would you call a beginner?
Phew, thats it. said all that i had thought about but couldnt write about five minutes ago…
.(got out of my Anti-Opera-user state
)
Just one last question though: why should it be FF vs Opera? couldnt it be FF And Opera? (Vs IE, of course)
Sure, each user has his/her own personal taste and requirements, and i have a not so slight preference for firefox (just in case you did not notice that already
) but, hey its not a competition, In my humble opinion, the only reason why there are alternative browsers is to try to satisfy all users need, and each browser has its own advantages (and flaws…). no reason thus to discredit any browser as useless.
(hm, hey… I mean, except Internet Explorer, Thats crap, really, no kidding, dont use that, else, you will regret it, someday, for sure..
)

Lol jvous jure, tout ce que je peux trouver dans tes archives!
Flamed to death? lol Opera is not bad, a bit better than you make it sound, but well, it doesnt change a thing since firefox/flock just beats the crap out of it
hehehe

:no: :no: :no: hans i still think it is too early
but i will do it anyway…
@ Nym
yeah sure, I’m designing the site for Kyushiro and any suggestions are welcomed. That’s why we’ve decided to launch the theme to add the bits and bytes.
As for plugins, Nym just wait for Kyushiro
you won’t regret this fabulous stuff he’s preparing that will include lots of goodies and even the plugins you would be wanting. Infact by now I think he should come up with that post for taking user suggestion for further development of the project.
@ kyushiro
November 22nd, 2006 at 10:49 pmYou see man, what’s you waiting to take that post out
good post there, kyu.
I’m an adept of firefox myself and i’v never tried opera. But if you are a beginner, what is the problem ? everyone began by being a beginner ! and i’m not using more features than a beginner because i don’t need to. to sum up : … i agree with you
by the way, do you know a site where i could find some good plugins for firefox ?
see ya
PS : just a suggestion, maybe you could make the thing that says how many comments you have for one post bigger or clearer ? i had difficulties to find it :S
November 22nd, 2006 at 7:35 pmHey thanks for your comment hans! Yeah i see what you mean. Ff has many advanced functions that can be kind of Hidden from the beginner to provide a much more compact layout.
November 20th, 2006 at 12:32 amnice post Kyushiro. yeah that would be too great : the combined power(or jutsu) of Opera and FF. You know what I think that for the part of FF is for beginners or whatever, I think FF could now come with other interface that won’t just give a new look but change the layout therefore having a compact set of item stuffs or something alike since beginners won’t be needing stuff like error console, page info, etc….
