Wake up with your favourite media files playing

Ever wanted your pc to act as an alarm clock? i mean, which switches on at a predefined time, and start playing media files.

Recently i have FINALLY found a real simple solution to my self-posed problem! (never give up on your quests people! lol )
Its name? WOSB (abbrev. for Wakeup On Standby.) ) ) but mind you, this method can only be used IF your computer can hibernate. (most pcs since windows xp release are APM enabled so normally this should not be a problem.)

The official site is here

Get WOSB (From mediafire)

(about 325 kb)

Install the program and it should run immediately after the install.

Okay, now set the date and time you want your pc to wake up from hibernation for the first time. (you can then configure the program to wake your pc every week on specific days.)

Now one sidequest for you. minimize wosb, and go to your favourite media player. set up the playlist you want the pc to play when it wakes up. it can contain as many songs as you want. save or export the playlist (in either .m3u or .pls , anyone will do) and close your media player.

Back to Wosb. in the field *(2) specify what to do at that time:*
Tick the checkbox, click the […] button, browse to the playlist created above and double click on it.

In the *(3) Specify what to do next* field, you can specify an amount of time to wait (thus playing the playlist) before shutting down / hibernating (useful to make the task fully automatic, waking up PC, playing your playlist, re-hibernate after some time, and repeat next morning for example) but personally i set that to *just wait* because the amount of time i take to wake up is greatly variable lol

As for the *(4) repeat these tasks* field, it is pretty intuitive, just that you need to select a day to enable the radio button (every week, in a week, etc…)

You can then click start to activate the task. (i havent tested the batch process function yet, but sure will.) also, when you want to turn off the pc, do NOT shut down, as it will cancel the task set in wosb. just right click the wosb in the tray (near the clock) and click on hibernate, taddaaa! ) lol just one last thing, before hibernating, ensure your speakers volume is at a reasonable level (i once ended up waking up everybody with sepultura *ROOOOOOOOOOOTS! Bloody ROOOOOOTS!* at nearly maximum volume lol lol lol )

Well, the most technical ones might have noticed, the playlist is opened by wosb. this means that in its place, any other program / file etc might be opened (even several programs or files, using a multilauncher script as the opened file in wosb) Furthermore command prompt params can be passed to the program opened. this means there are tens (or hundreds? ) ) other possible uses of wosb. (however not yet thought of any ) )

Hey leo, youre into scripting too??? Coolz!

that one was a simple sfx script (winrar users right click it to see what i mean)

But i also use inno setup and Auto it 3.0.

im now on a project with some friends, UBkey

( lol Hey, a jutsu designer will always remain one, theres no changing that trait of a person! ) am sure you yourself has also improved in jutsu creation! =D =D =D =D

lol No, i dont use liokun since last year!!! but just in case that would help in recognising me! =D
I also did it, using Jetaudio
which has a built in alarm which wakes your pc from standby, and plays the files in its playlist. But Chris, your way is better, because jetaudio is 16 mb (compared to that soft*s 324 mb) and well, for just that functionality id rather uninstall jetaudio! (was to be expected from you chris! ) )

Hey, you make installers?? cool! script wise or wizard? i use inno setup compiler )

=D @ sundeep Real happy this helped you ) Well actually the bios startup feature is the first method i tried with a Autoit script to run winamp. but that was not really practical at all lol lol WOSB rules in that matter!

@ Yashvin yep, real nice! lol

@ liokun, hi. still the same nickname after two years heh? yep, thats me. (how many times have you been in here silently???) =D long time no see mate! as you see, i have completed our jutsu (technique) after quite some time ) remember how we at first deactivated the fan to make the cpu *BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP…* at startup? lol hey leo, got your email in that comment. will mail you laterz. )

hey you guys tell me if you find another possible use of the WOSB? (ive found some, but nothing useful. like waking the browser, going to a given url, and then power off after 30 minutes)! lol lol lol

This was smtg i’ve been trying too since long..
    till now..
i used to hibernate with winamp playing a song which would more likely me make me awake (sepultura been in the playlist quite some times)..and then i would u a feature of the bios which would start up the pc at a given time..however for this to work correctly i had to each time hibernate with winamp playing some song
i installed wosb and today i woke up with Summer Moon..featuring David Guetta..and gosh today is the concert..wish i could get a ticket
    wosb works well
those who have not tried it..
    go ahead
    try it
