Megaupload country slots - hacked! :)
EDIT: Until further notice this hack is no longer working since it seems that the user agent used by the toolbar has once again been changed. Sorry for any kinds of inconvenience. I will update this if i find a new way. thanks

Well, for those who do not know Megaupload, it is a fileshare site similar to rapidshare and mediafire.
You might have noticed my preference for uploading to mediafire (Most of the files i post about are uploaded there because of the absence of limitations)
However, when it comes to downloading, be it anime, music, or episodes of smallville and lost, i have noticed many of those are hosted @ Megaupload. hence, when trying to download these contents, most mauritians (and am sure people from other countries too) reach an error message
Sorry, all download slots for your country (country name) are in use, try again later…
bet a small country like mu has at best 10 slots??
Pretty basic you’ll tell me, If you download their toolbar for internet explorer, thats no longer a problem BUT,
(1) 1 month since am on ubuntu linux,
(2) almost 3 years am using firefox.
(3) IE??? were light years away from that! 
(4) install? toolbar? hey, smells fishy… any adware/spyware/whateverware in that?

Anyway, firefox users, lets get going
(1) Go download the user agent switcher extension for firefox (it lets firefox impersonate another browser, another OS, etc…)
(2) install the ext, restart firefox to complete.
(3) come back here
(4) Go to tools -> user agent switcher -> options -> options.
(5) click on user agents, then on add
(6) Description: Megaupload
User Agent : MEGAUPLOAD 1.0
(7) OK -> OK
(8) All done now just select megaupload from the switcher when downloading from MU

and, about the xpi, a greasemonkey script would be an easier medium to implement this i think… but hey, we`re still not there yet, not even sure this will work ^_^

Well, we`ve been working on this with leo (too bad you are not free…) anyway, i think we found the root of the problem.
As leo told you, we analysed the user agent of Firefox 2 + MU toolbar, it just appends “MEGAUPLOAD 2.0″ to the usual Firefox UA. (very much like when you found it appended “MEGAUPLOAD 1.0″ in the previous version…)
So it was natural to deduce the new UA to use, except that it didn`t work even with the 2.0 User agent…
From here on began our trials and errors with the toolbar to find out what it added (heck, why is it not open source? ^_^ then again if its spyware…)
anyway, there seems to be a cookie added by the toolbar.
(speculation) first thing MU checks for the cookie before checking the user agent, (/speculation)
at least thats my guess.
so now all that is left is to try to identify and fake the cookie and use the user agent. if this works maybe we`ll make an xpi for firefox. hey, thats some work

I used to hate megaupload before i found this trick.
Dude thanks a lot for sharing this with us. Now, I can uninstall that friggin toolbar and use firefox to download from MU. Meh, I might not get rid of the time between downloads, but still, thanks a lot

I’ve tried the install the ext to my Mozilla Firefox and follow the steps to download premium mu but it doesn’t work. when i press on premium download, it leads me to a website to purchase. unless i am doing something wrong.
any help would greatly be appreciated.

I had been using that a hack for over a month now but it just stopped working now.
Thx God that i found ur site & i renamed the UserAgent.
Works perfectly now!! Now i can resume my download of Dreamweaver CS 3.
