Veoh blocked? o_O
[Rant post] Since Megaupload changed its algorithms recently making it almost impossible for us to download anything without their toolbar (they attempted to that is
) i thought i had had my share of “evil” sites which indiscriminately block off a geographical region from using their services. I thus did not expect anything of the sort from the sites i usually visit. well, it was without counting veoh in,
I can already imagine some of you scratching your head and trying to figure what the hell that Veoh site or whatever is about. so as am not really in the mood to promote them right now, let’s just say it’s kind of a youtube like service, and that there are LOTS of anime series hosted there in medium quality (way better than what you find on youtube and the non HD dailymotion videos.) By that description only, you should have guessed that it was very high on my resources list. i truly considered that site like a successor to stage6.
But here comes the fun part, after a week of abstinence (
) today i wanted to watch the next part of shining tears x wind, and major turn off

oooh riiiiiiight! ~_~”
Anyway, geek’s reaction, google, and from wikipedia we get that
Countless users from said countries are complaining about this decision on their official forums and also the fact that they were blocked out without any prior notice. Gaude Paez, a spokesperson told NewTeeVee.com “The markets we are exiting collectively represent less than 10 percent of our viewer base.” She maintained that the decision was “not about saving resources but rather re-focusing those resources.
ok, now am getting more and more pissed off as i write this, “The markets we are exiting collectively represent less than 10 percent of our viewer base”—->thus we just f**k those ~9%, we’ve got our user base already… what a damned stupid excuse they are giving!
and “re-focussing resources”, my foot yeah… [/rant post]
enfin, on the other side, it may be a good thing, with this now i’ve got less risks of exceeding Orange capping limits and be subject to FUP
(moi? pessimiste? pas du tout je vous assure
)
Anyways i guess i’ll have to find an alternative or try my luck with obscure (i.e. not very well known) anonymous proxy servers… (or go and flood their official forums to death, IP banning is uneffective on us \o/
)
by the way there seems to be a way to bypass their blocking, but i’ll try that later i guess, i’m just dead right now

Bof, pas convaincu hein :/
sites like Vreel (which provide MUCH higher quality vids than veoh btw, sometimes that nears HD (and am not talking about the crappy “hd” dailymotion boasts about either, c’est carrement du divX)) and yet they can sustain the weight!
also, the reps at veoh have clearly stated that their motivation is absolutely not financial. though i agree this might just be bluff, but it shows just how much they can be trusted in the best of cases.
anyways kyu try vreel. sure, content wise its not as spectacular as veoh, and the progressive download can be a pain in the rear, (ou pas, orbit power, you’re better off leeching directly) but i think its worth a try
July 10th, 2008 at 11:22 amyeah, i’ve already read your article
actually i kind of understand what you mean, but the thing is that that was really abrupt (no warning to members from said countries whatsoever, no apologies either etc)
there’s also a lack of transparency, if they cut for financial reasons they just should say so. instead, for only response from veoh, we’ve got just a mere copy paste of their
whenever explanations are asked… So while i agree the move might make sense (et encore…) that was executed rather clumsily
July 2nd, 2008 at 9:42 pmThe comments, they are confusing. my CRT is too heavy to flip upside down….
I’m not playing devil’s advocate but I think they really are trying to “refocus” resources.
I wrote a little bit about it here
July 2nd, 2008 at 4:20 pm@ Ketwaroo D. Yaasir—> Yups, comments are reversed

July 2nd, 2008 at 3:10 pmand as for the veoh thingy, yeah, it might woud have made some sense (et encore…) if at least the direction had the guts to assume their real motivations (whatever be those) till the end, and not serve the classic meaningless response they gave on their forums
I just noticed the veoh blockade..
is is just me or does that move seem to make sense..?
and is it also just me or are the comments sorted in reverse…?
June 24th, 2008 at 6:00 amOui c’est malllllllllllll!
@ MJ—> thanks, reconaissance eternelle toussa toussa
and that dedibox’s got some upload bandwidth o_O too bad i can’t get it at full speed though
enfin yeah, still waiting for veoh’s successor too
@ Carrotmadman6—>yeah, really too bad
a list of the countries blocked is available on their wiki page. however this move also (surprisingly enough) caused them to lose some users from said countries with a “higher viewing userbase”, so i just hope a replacement will come soon, just as veoh emerged when stage6 sank
June 9th, 2008 at 6:08 pm:-) bienfait 8-) quelle idée de regarder des mangas aussi :-| hihihi :-) just kidding hein…sympa sa mane ti smiley la :[
June 8th, 2008 at 4:18 pmouch, too bad, sorry for you bro…
anyways if you want the rest of the series i can up it in HQ (mkv) on my uncle’s dedibox, just tell me what ep. you’re at ok?
also, if you decide take the proxy route, i suggest using Switchproxy, a nifty addon for firefox facilitating proxy switching.
finally, i’m sure there must be other great services not like that, i’ll try to find one too (yeah, i’m also banned T_T) je te tiens au courant
June 8th, 2008 at 1:31 pmOuch… that sucks! :choler:
We should complain to the UN! LOL It’s racial discrimination (really!) - I bet the whole of Africa is blocked!
But as always, there’ll always be a way to bypass their blocking!
As for MU, i tried the MU User Agent - it didn’t work. I tried the Googlebot User Agent instead & it worked!
